The Journey to Motherhood

Congratulations! Knowing your Estimated Due Date (EDD) is the first step in your pregnancy journey.

Key Milestones

  1. First Trimester (Weeks 1-12): Baby’s organs form. Morning sickness is common.
  2. Second Trimester (Weeks 13-26): “Honeymoon phase”. Energy returns. You might feel the baby move (Quickening) around week 18-20.
  3. Third Trimester (Weeks 27-40): Baby grows rapidly. You prepare for labor.

Fun Fact

Did you know? A ‘month’ in pregnancy assumes 4 weeks, but calendar months are longer. That’s why pregnancy is calculated as 40 weeks, which acts like 10 lunar months, not 9 calendar months!

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Due Date calculated?

We use Naegele's Rule: Add 7 days to the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP), and then subtract 3 months. Ideally, pregnancy lasts 280 days (40 weeks).

Is this calculator 100% accurate?

No. Only about 4-5% of babies are born on their exact due date. Most are born within two weeks before or after the date.

What if I have irregular periods?

The LMP method assumes a 28-day cycle. If your cycle is irregular, an early ultrasound is the most accurate way to date the pregnancy.

What is LMP?

LMP stands for Last Menstrual Period. It refers to the *first day* of your last period, not when it ended.

How many weeks pregnant am I?

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your LMP, not from the day of conception. So, you are technically '2 weeks pregnant' when you conceive!

What are the Trimesters?

First Trimester: Week 1–12. Second Trimester: Week 13–26. Third Trimester: Week 27–40.

When can I hear the heartbeat?

A baby's heartbeat can usually be detected by ultrasound around 6–7 weeks of pregnancy.

What is a 'Full Term' pregnancy?

A pregnancy is considered full term anywhere between 39 weeks and 40 weeks & 6 days.

Can the due date change?

Yes, your doctor might adjust your due date based on the baby's size measurements during the first-trimester scan.

What if I don't know my LMP?

If you don't remember the date, wait for your dating scan (usually at 8-12 weeks) for a reliable estimate.
